Is it possible to grow fresh, beyond organic produce, while making a profit & regenerating the land you’re using all at the same time? The answer is yes! But every system must be custom designed, properly installed & well managed to meet those goals. We haven’t found very many people doing exactly this in Central Texas on a large scale so we’re using this project to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is possible here & now! These 10 acres near Blanco, TX were not being utilized for anything productive when we began working on it. There was no infrastructure, except a perimeter fence. In 2 months time we have installed the necessary infrastructure & planted a perennial system of food producing & support species specifically designed & organized for maximum resilience, production & efficiency, including ease of harvest. We will be tracking data to help understand where we are achieving maximum regenerative effects for the land & returns for farmers in order to help others achieve their goals & continue to improve our systems design. We will continue to update with pictures & more info so please check back soon. Eventually this site will become open for tours & educational events.
The Gerlach Farm
This beautiful farmstead in Moody, TX is owned by two of the most genuinely sweet people we’ve had the pleasure of working with. With 10 acres of mostly open field, we designed & installed 4 berm & swale systems, one of which feeds the pond. The large berm & swale spacing allows for ample alley cropping & silvopasture. Resilient, native or naturalized fruit tree varieties were chosen & planted to provide a fast & healthy crop. As this property develops, we look forward to the joy of seeing their dreams of pick-your-own-berries visits, a farmstand, & family integration into the farm come to be.
