More Urban Permaculture Work
Urban lots often hold more potential than our clients originally imagine. Here we've got veggie gardens, chicken coop and run, rain water catchment, a small above ground pond, composting systems, and fruit trees. There's still room to install more symbiotic systems here as we identify what needs are possible to meet locally in an efficient manner.
This project was about getting rid of the lawn & replacing it with something more functional & lower maintenance. We sheet-mulched the yard, to offer both grass suppression & improve the soil. Then we put in the planters for veggies, added fruit trees, attractors, herbs & seeded wild flowers. There's also a nice veggie garden in the back & some IBC totes going in as rain water collection that are not in this picture.
This is a wicking or sub irrigation bed, custom designed and built to provide some garden space to this property with very little sun and soil availability. We believe you can do something productive with just about any space, if your creative enough.
This garden combines small earthworks (berms & swales) with part shade annuals & perennials. We get a great deal of passive rain water catchment any time there is run off & also a space to grow veggies.
